Time
is both a magnificent gift and a terrible curse of our mankind; it can heal or
wound; it can cause remembrance or oblivion. One thing for sure is that it
forms history and without history how could we possibly dream about the future?
I always believed that in order to embrace your next warm sunrise you have to
be aware of all those which have passed, sunny or cloudy ones, and be eternally
thankful for they have made you a wiser 'traveler' and granted you knowledge about life’s beauties and harms.
Been
visiting some of the oldest monuments in planet Earth, it got me thinking about
the influences that our past has in our modern life. Nobody starts fresh from
nothing as even a clear blank page always indicates previous ones filled with
experience, both pleasant and unpleasant. Even the ashes can become lung’s
breathing oxygen and a useful first step among many of an evolutionary life
climax. And the more time I spent admiring Greece’s ancient monuments and their
cultural influences the greater my strong belief became that no matter how much
some of us try to fool ourselves that we are not connected with each other, the undeniable truth is that our lives are like pediments upon the oldest eternal temple called life; each one of us unique,
individual and beautiful, but much influenced by each other and always
associated with the rest.
Just take a moment and think about it; who would you really be without your past’s guidance and your ghosts’ influences? Wouldn’t you make the same mistakes over and over again without ever finding your real peace and purpose? That’s what probably would have happened to me. Life is a long and at the same time a short journey and the sooner we appreciate what our past has shown us the better our future will develop. It is not something that it should scare us and stop us from living, but something that shall motivate us to finally start living in full.
