SETTING THE STAGE.

chapter2.

All the world is a stage. Or at least her world is a stage. If theater was a woman it would probably be her. Memorable, highly artistic, lovable and spiritually free, Eva's intriguing personality takes over ILIAAW. She talks about style, fashion in the world of theater and people.

Q.Hello!

A.Hi!

Q.How would you introduce yourself?

A.My name is Eva Kourelia, I am 19 years old and I am a Fine Art student at the theater department in Thessaloniki. Lately I volunteeringly collect posters that fascinate me from the city's walls and place them on the walls of my apartment. That way I create enough empty space for new posters. That is volunteering, right?

Q.Is style important to you?

A.I have no idea how the world would be without style. For me the word style is very subjective, there are many different styles and each one express something different for each person. We are who we are and without style we would all be identical or similar. I mean, it's like my personal touch on an already finished painting.

Q.If you could travel back in time, in which decade would you choose to live in terms of style?

A.That's a tough question because the way I am choosing my clothing is inspired by many different decades and not just one. Nevertheless I would say that the 70s is the decade that inspire me and also express me more. Hippies had the uper hand with their flare jeans and their round glasses, launching their own revolution against the conformance of the traditional society with the sounds of their rock guitars and the disco beats.

Q.Name three clothing pieces that every young woman should have in her wardrobe.

A.White shirt: a piece that can match with everything, it fits with every style that you want to create, from androgynous to preppy looks. Suede beige jacket: it's comfy, it matches with every piece in a wardrobe because of its color and it has vintage influences. Want some more? Flare jeans: they make you thin and tall and I personally love them.

Q.Do you think that the world of style and fashion is somehow related to arts?

A.Art has many different influences and one of them is fashion. After all, big fashion houses like Chanel, Celine and Kenzo had many times as their inspiration famous paintings and sculptures.

Q.Is the fashion industry influenced by the world of theater?

A.The costumes designed for a theatrical play are almost always bold and majestic in order to create to the audience the feeling that they have entered into a different world, into an older decade (always depending on the script). I believe that this is the characteristic which has been adapted by the fashion industry and examples to justify that theory are the John Galliano A/W 2013 and Alexander Mcqueen's creations, whose designes remind more costumes than clothing.

Q.Could you introduce someone from the world of arts that his/her style is very iconic for you?

A.The one who has a major impact on the way I dress is Frida Kahlo. She was a Mexican painter, who shared her physical and psychological pain on her pieces. I have distinguished  her because her clothes were captivating, colourful and full-printed with flowers.

Q.Are we the people of the new world?

A.I believe undoubtedly that our generation can be, and partly is, very creative. Almost every day, I communicate with people filled with massive amount of energy, ideas and passion for art. People of our generation that inspire you and you inspire them back. The problem is that modern society tries to bury you and after succeeding, both individuals and society end up buried deep underneath the reality. That way, many ideas from many bright humans end up in the garbages.

Q.Does our generation express more love or more hate?

A.Hm, I cannot say that our generation express hate or love. I see emptiness deep in their eyes, apathy. In my opinion, there are many people who don't care about what's going on around them, and their intention focuses on their ego and forget to just love.

Q.Is there something that you would like to share with everyone reading this?

A.'Art school taught me that my greatest tool is myself' -Unknown.

Eva wears vintage suede beige jacket, Zara t-shirt, H&M jeans, Zara shoes, Louis Vuitton scarf and Zara sunglasses.
